The Angela Fleischman lab at UC Irvine is dedicated to understanding the pathogenesis of myeloproliferative neoplasms  (MPN or MPD) which includes polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis). Our focus is on the role of inflammation in MPN.

Technicians

TIFFANY TRIEU

Tiffany has been part of the Fleischman Lab since her freshman year and is now in her second gap year before applying to medical school. She received her degree in Biological Sciences at UCI and is interested in the impact of inflammation on expansion of mutant cells in MPN.

JANE HUISHIEN CHEN

Jane joined our lab in Fall 2018 as an undergraduate student and received a UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) grant. As an undergrad, she investigated the impact of an inflammatory diet on the clonal expansion of malignant myeloid cells in the context of a TET2-/- mutation in mice, in addition to the possible mitigatory effects of N-acetyl cysteine (N-AC) on disease progression. She graduated from UCI in 2021 with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Bioinformatics. She is interested in pursuing an MD/PhD to become a physician scientist. She is currently continuing to explore ways that reduction in inflammation can affect symptom and disease manifestation in MPN patients.

HELEN HUANG

Helen was born in Shenzhen, China and finished her high school in Maryland. She graduated in March 2023. Helen assisted Gaja with DNA isolation from mouse blood and human samples, PCR and gel electrophoresis, mouse bone marrow isolation, cell culture of primary cells and established cell lines, flow cytometry for phosphoflow and staining and analyzing mouse blood samples by flow cytometry.

JIANHONG HEIDMANN

Jianhong joined the lab during the summer of 2022. She majored in biological sciences along with a minor in International Studies, and graduated with the class of 2023. Jianhong is continuing with research in the Fleischman lab during her gap year as she prepares for the MCAT.
